Fauna of Wisconsin

Project Type: Illustration & Editorial Design
Role: Illustrator & Graphic Designer
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign
Format: Booklet / Educational Visual

Project Brief

Fauna of Wisconsin is an illustrative project created to highlight native wildlife found throughout the state of Wisconsin. The goal was to design an educational yet visually engaging piece that could function as a poster or reference chart while remaining approachable and aesthetically cohesive.

Design Challenge

The primary challenge was balancing informational clarity with visual interest. With multiple animals featured in a single layout, the design needed to remain organized and easy to read without feeling overcrowded. Each animal also needed to feel stylistically consistent while still maintaining distinct characteristics.

Process

I began by researching native Wisconsin wildlife and selecting animals that would represent a diverse range of species. From there, I developed a cohesive illustration style that was clean, friendly, and suitable for an educational context.

Once the illustrations were established, I focused on layout and hierarchy—grouping animals thoughtfully and pairing them with clear labels to ensure readability. Color, spacing, and typography were refined to support both the informational and decorative aspects of the piece.

Final Outcome

The final design is a visually engaging wildlife chart that balances illustration and information. Fauna of Wisconsin functions as both an educational resource and a decorative print, making it suitable for classrooms, nature centers, or personal display.
